University of South Africa UNISA: How to register, costs and documents required

The South African government is working tirelessly to ensure that it is an educated nation. Establishment of institutions of higher learning is one of the strategies that the government has taken to ensure that it makes education accessible to its citizens.

In order to apply online you will need a working email address and your South African identity number, or, if you are an international applicant, your passport number.

Everyone wanting to start a new qualification must apply for admission. This includes

  • first-time Unisa applicants
  • Unisa students changing to a new qualification and / or specialisation
  • applicants who previously applied for admission and were either not offered a space or were offered a space and did not register
  • students completing a higher certificate or alternative pathway / extended programme who wish to continue with further undergraduate studies

Everyone wanting to start a new qualification must apply for admission, including first-time Unisa applicants, Unisa students changing to a new qualification and/or changing the specialisation of their current qualification, and applicants in their final year of an undergraduate qualification who wish to continue with postgraduate studies.
